KIRINYAGA, Kenya, October 9, 2026 — Unfavourable early-morning weather set the scene for Kirinyaga University’s 10th graduation ceremony, as Christian and Muslim prayers, traditional performances by Turkana and Pokot communities, and celebrations of academic achievement marked a significant milestone in the institution’s journey.
Held under the theme of 10 years of growth and achievements, the ceremony represented a decade of the university’s development and its role in providing higher education to students pursuing their academic and professional ambitions.
Despite the challenging weather conditions in the early morning, graduates, families and members of the university community gathered for the occasion, which combined academic recognition with spiritual reflection and cultural expression.
The ceremony opened with prayers from both Christian and Muslim faiths, setting a spiritual tone for the day and reflecting the diversity of religious traditions represented within the university community.
The interfaith prayers provided a moment of reflection and thanksgiving before the programme proceeded, bringing together participants from the two faiths at the beginning of the graduation celebrations.
The atmosphere later shifted to cultural entertainment as students from the Turkana community took to the stage for a traditional performance that brought colour and energy to the occasion.
Their presentation was followed by traditional entertainment from the Pokot community, adding another dimension to the celebrations and showcasing the richness of Kenya’s cultural heritage.
The successive performances offered a lively contrast to the solemnity of the opening prayers and the unfavourable early-morning weather, giving the graduation a distinctive blend of spirituality, tradition and celebration.
Beyond the performances, the 10th graduation ceremony served as a moment to reflect on Kirinyaga University’s decade of growth and achievements. The milestone provided an opportunity to celebrate the institution’s journey while recognising the academic efforts of students completing their studies.
For the graduating students, the occasion marked the culmination of years of lectures, examinations and personal sacrifices. For their families and supporters, it was an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of their loved ones as they prepared to take the next steps in their careers and personal lives.
The combination of Christian and Muslim prayers, Turkana and Pokot cultural performances, and the celebration of academic achievement underscored the different traditions and experiences that can come together within Kenya’s higher education institutions.
As the university marked its 10th graduation ceremony, the occasion stood as a celebration of both individual academic milestones and a decade of institutional growth, with the graduates forming part of the next chapter in Kirinyaga University’s continuing journey.
